Learn with blogs and podcasts

Everyday we’re learning something new about how to build belonging in Gloucestershire.

We want to share that learning with you, so we regularly write blogs about what we are learning and how to get started. We hope these blogs and stories offer you some inspiration to take action in your community or workplace.

More recently we have recorded some podcasts with people from around the world, who have also been doing their bit to build more inclusion where they live. You can hear their stories about what inspired them and the lessons they have learned along the way.

“You just seem to sit and have coffee with people!” – Community Builder Kat Gibson shares how she supports residents in Barnwood and Hucclecote in Gloucester to take action on the things that are important to them. She describes her excitement as she witnesses how people discover that all that they need to make an idea happen is often already there and available to them. Watching people in their journey as they begin to think, act, and lead in making new things happen where they live.

“Small is beautiful” – Richard Holmes, Head of Inclusive Community Building writes about why small stories about social change are so important, as combined they can change the way we see our communities. As we here more of these stories we’ll learn to appreciate how the culture in our communities is already moving towards one of welcoming and inclusion.

“Reclaiming conversation? Philip Booth, You’re Welcome Guide shares some reflections on his community building practice. He explores a challenge he was presented with when a mentor of his suggested that even placing a mobile phone on a table can impact on having an authentic conversation.

Podcast with Gilbert Rochecouste from Village Well in Melbourne – In this podcast Gilbert describes why creating fun and creative places where people want to hang out is so important in enabling community life to flourish. He shares his story which started out when he placed a bench outside his house in Melbourne.

Podcast with Dee Brooks from Jeder InstituteDee shares her experience in leading community led change. She describe how the Jeder Institute came about, and their mission to build inclusion through creating authentic social change through increased community engagement and participation.
