Dementia care news – June 2009

Barnwood Trust has just commissioned Dementia Voice to help us ensure that the day care support we provide for guests with dementia is of the highest possible quality.

Dementia Voice is a specialist arm of Housing 21; a leading provider of retirement housing, care and support services for older people.

David Williams, Head of Dementia Services for Housing 21, and Diane Cole and Rachael Dutton who manage a specialist day centre for people with dementia in London, have all spent a significant amount of time working alongside our day care staff.

They have also held focus groups with staff members and our guests’ carers to help us to identify what more we could – and should – be doing to support people with dementia and their families.

This is an exciting opportunity for Barnwood Trust to build on the recommendations recently published in the Department of Health’s first ever National Dementia Strategy – and to make a meaningful contribution to implementing that strategy in Gloucestershire.
