At our recent Grants Committee meeting, Barnwood Trust awarded grant to the Gloucester Blazers Wheelchair Basketball Club, enabling them to buy five new sports wheelchairs – and to represent the county in national competitions.
Gloucester Blazers Wheelchair Basketball Club trains on Tuesday evenings at Gloucester College.
Despite forming as recently as July 2008, the club already fields teams in two divisions of the National Basketball Association – and also has one member in the Great Britain squad.
At the same meeting, grants were awarded to:
Cirencester College grant to employ a Project Manager to oversee a shop run by students with learning disabilities
Speakout Gloucestershire grant towards the running costs of monthly meetings held by their mental health service user groups
Combat Stress grant towards treatment and welfare support for Gloucestershire veterans
The Independence Trust grant towards hire of vehicles for their day centre services for people with mental health problems
