Barnwood Trust has awarded a grant to the Thomas Morley Trust to provide new sails for the sailing dinghies at Whitefriars Sailing for the Disabled, Cirencester.
Whitefriars keep at least four special dinghies for use by people with disabilities – one of which was purchased with the help of a grant from us in 2005.
At the same meeting in August 2009, grants were awarded to:
Gloucestershire County Association for the Blind grant over three years to support their new Care Homes Liaison Project. This project will work with 120 registered care homes in the county, providing advice, training and support to staff on sight-related issues with the aim of encouraging independence and improving the quality of life of their blind and partially-sighted residents. They intend to employ a Care Homes Liaison Officer to provide low-vision awareness to staff, produce guidelines to help staff recognise signs of visual impairment, ensure that all communications are accessible to the blind and partially-sighted and provide a point of contact and literature for staff seeking information and advice.
Great Oaks Dean Forest Hospice grant over three years towards the nursing and medical costs of severely disabled patients who use the hospice day care service. These patients are wheelchair users who need special equipment and care, in addition to that normally provided to patients at the hospice. Great Oaks has been providing supportive care to people in Gloucestershire with life-limiting illnesses and their families since 2002.
