Wellbeing in Gloucestershire
The Trust’s current strategy was informed by an extensive consultation exercise, during which people with disabilities and mental health challenges across the county shared their views, experiences and aspirations. Many of those consulted described the poor quality of their day-to-day lives. We heard that many had little or nothing to do, with little or no infrastructure to achieve a good quality of life. Many spoke of feeling socially isolated in their communities and were concerned about negative attitudes towards people living with impairments. Some also spoke of the detrimental impact this has on their health, wellbeing, confidence and self-esteem.
Keen to understand some of these issues further, in 2013 Barnwood Trust commissioned a county-wide study to explore what drives wellbeing in Gloucestershire and determine whether residents living with an impairment have equal access to the determinants of wellbeing.
