Workshop: Creating Welcoming Community Spaces and Places
Date: Thursday 9th May 2019
Time: 1.30pm – 5.30pm
Venue: The Manor Lounge, National Star College, Ullenwood, Cheltenham GL53 9QU

This workshop is about developing an understanding of what contributes to helping create a physically accessible and welcoming community building or outside space. To Barnwood Trust, as a funder and advocate of community spaces, these twin aspects, of access and welcome, sit hand in glove. A space may be physically accessible but if it is not welcoming (either through its physical appearance, facilities and the personal approach of those to run it or greet you), then who would wish to access it?
By the end of this workshop, you will have:
- Developed a good understanding of the main principles of designing and developing different types of community spaces, so they are physically accessible and welcoming to everyone
- Learnt about the main legal and regulatory duties involved in running community spaces
- Look at good and poor practice, using real examples
- Increased knowledge and confidence about the important considerations that help create an accessible and welcoming community spaces, you either run or attend.
