Inclusive community building
Community Building is about local people working together to build healthier, safer, more inclusive and welcoming communities.
We encourage people to share their skills and talents and talk to each other about the things they would like to take action on where they live.
Our Community Building team supports local residents to grow their skills and confidence to enable them to connect more people together in their community. We also encourage people to have a different sort of conversation that isn’t just about the problems in the community, but one which focuses on dreams and aspirations. We’ve noticed that as people start to think about what’s possible where they live some amazing ideas emerge…
Residents across Gloucestershire have set up their own art groups, held fun days, established men sheds, and set up mindfulness clubs. Many of these ideas don’t need a lot of money to get started, just some passionate people and a commitment to have a go. However, if you find you do need a helping hand to get your idea off the ground you can apply for a Small Sparks grant from Barnwood. Our hope is once you get started, you’ll have so much fun you won’t want to stop meeting. Find out about Small Sparks here.
We realise that community life can get complicated too, so we also offer workshops to help you develop your skills in facilitating groups, understanding how to include people and build on your community building skills. You can find out more about our free workshops here.
Once you have got started, we would love to hear what you have been up to. Your story will inspire other local people to take action in their community, so share your experiences and join the conversation on the You’re Welcome website www.yourewelcome.to.
We look forward to you getting involved.
