Barnwood workshop: Creating community spaces and socially sustainable places

Join the team at Barnwood Trust to explore what makes socially sustainable places and community spaces – what are the vital ingredients to help build thriving, welcoming and inclusive communities in Gloucestershire?

Date: Wednesday 6th May

Time: 10.00am-2.00pm (lunch provided)

Venue: Overton House, Overton Road, Cheltenham, GL50 3BN

A socially sustainable community is one where people live alongside one another in a supportive and welcoming environment, with access to support or services should these be needed. Vital to this is having spaces and places where people can meet, socialise, learn or have fun together.

In this session we will explore how an accessible, inclusive and welcoming community space can help make your community a better place to live, for everyone.

If you are a local resident or part of a group or organisation who wants to understand the benefits of community spaces to help build more sustainable communities, and you want to learn about what makes a great community space, this could be the workshop for you.

The session will include discussion about what works and why, and practical tips to support your own projects. The Barnwood team will be happy to offer guidance and support to help you as you put your learning into practice. There will also be lots of opportunity to connect with others with similar interests.

Come along if you would like to add to your learning from the ‘Building stronger communities’ workshop.

At this workshop, we will explore:

  • how attractive, well designed community spaces help build sustainable communities;
  • how a great welcome and physical accessibility promote greater use of spaces and enables inclusion for all; and
  • what makes a great community space and the vital ingredients needed to go about creating one.

*This works well as a stand-alone session or linked to the ten workshops covering strengths-based practices presented by Barnwood Trust.

Note: Blue badge parking spaces are available on-site. Free road side parking for up to 4hrs is available nearby (there will be an opportunity to move your car in the lunch break if needed) and the St. Georges Road paying car park is within 5 minutes’ walk. Please arrive 15 Minutes before for refreshments.

This workshop has a maximum capacity of 25 attendees and places are reserved on a first come, first serve basis. If you book onto the workshop after the capacity has been reached, we’ll place you on a waiting list and let you know.
