Barnwood workshop: Exploring vulnerability and connection

Join us at Barnwood Trust to explore vulnerability in its broadest context – how can vulnerability be a strength with the power to connect people?

Date: Wednesday 16th September

Time: 11.00am-3.00pm (lunch provided)

Venue: Overton House, Overton Road, Cheltenham, GL50 3BN

Join us at Barnwood Trust to explore vulnerability in its broadest context – how can vulnerability be a strength with the power to connect people?

Discover the origins of vulnerability, gain insight into the life experience of somebody with a physical impairment and consider together how vulnerability can be reframed as a strength.

If you are a community member or part of a group or organisation and would like to take a fresh perspective on vulnerability as a shared human trait, this could be the workshop for you.

Through a combination of conversations and art of hosting techniques we will explore what makes us all vulnerable and all great. The session draws on the research of Brené Brown and on Katie Peacock’s lived experience as a vulnerable adult, and her journey to redefine this for herself.

Come along if you would like to add to your learning from the ‘Building stronger communities’ workshop series or use this workshop as a gentle introduction to ‘Connecting people to opportunities and wellbeing – the Welcoming Way’ which come next in the series.

In this session, Katie offers a safe space to explore:

  • what vulnerability is and how it has been defined over the ages;
  • how vulnerability is a human trait that we can reframe for ourselves if we want to; and
  • how vulnerability could hold the key to connecting us all.

* This works well as a stand-alone session or as part of the series of ten workshops covering strengths-based practices presented by Barnwood Trust.

Note: Blue badge parking spaces are available on-site. Free road side parking for up to 4hrs is available in the vicinity (there will be an opportunity to move your car in the lunch break if needed) and the St. Georges Road paying car park is within 5 minutes’ walk. Please arrive 15 Minutes before for refreshments.

This workshop has a maximum capacity of 15 attendees and places are reserved on a first come, first serve basis. If you book onto the workshop after the capacity has been reached, we’ll place you on a waiting list and let you know.
