Our new investment plan brings with it some changes to our existing activity. Barnwood Trust will stop being a direct provider of services, and the Trustees intend to sell the Manor House and the majority of the Manor Gardens sheltered housing.
However we are committed to ensuring that the Manor Centre day care service continues and that the residents in our sheltered housing continue to be provided for. Read on to find out how.
Manor Centre day care
We are in the early stages of discussions with Age UK Gloucestershire about the possibility of them taking over the Manor Centre. Christina Snell, Chief Executive of Age UK Gloucestershire says ‘We are delighted to have the opportunity to explore the possibility of taking over this high quality and well-respected service’.
The service would still be managed and run by the current team. We expect guests to continue to attend as now, and the current very flexible programme to remain the same.
Age UK Gloucestershire already provides a wide range of services to support older people. It is a strong, locally-based charity with values that fit with those of Barnwood Trust.
We are going to find a new purpose-built or renovated home for the day care to move to – in the same area. We think it will take at least two years to move the day care service to new premises, so until then it will be business as usual at the Manor Centre in the Manor House.
We have been holding open meetings for our day guests and their families so that they can meet Christina from Age UK Gloucestershire and ask any questions. For further information call the Manor Centre Manager, Heather Woodward on 01452 634015, or email heather.woodward@barnwoodtrust.org
Manor Gardens sheltered housing
Although we intend to sell the majority of the Manor Gardens sheltered housing we are committed to ensuring that we meet our responsibility to our residents and continue to provide them with secure and appropriate housing.
All our residents are being offered a choice of three options for where they might live:
We have been meeting with each of our residents individually to discuss what they would like to do. Each resident will be given support to manage the move and deal with any associated costs.
For further information about the sale of Manor Gardens or the relocation of our sheltered housing residents please contact our new Director of Community Spaces, Lawrence Miller, on 07854 963567 or email lawrence.miller@barnwoodtrust.org
Selling Manor Gardens and the Manor House
We do not intend to sell the Manor Gardens and the Manor House until all our residents have moved and the day care has been transferred to a new location. We anticipate that it will take at least two years for this to happen. Until the site is sold we intend to let the empty properties in Manor Gardens on short-term tenancies.
When we come to sell the Manor Gardens and the Manor House our intention is to sell the site on the open market. We will have no say in what the purchaser will do with the site. That will be a matter for the purchaser and Gloucester City Council Planning Service.
