James Hopkins Trust

Every family deserves time to enjoy life

Parenting can be challenging at times. Now, imagine doing it with no breaks, no time to rest, and no one to step in when you need a moment. For families of children with complex needs or life-limiting conditions, this is their everyday reality.

Every family deserves time to pause, reset, and find moments of enjoyment—that’s where James Hopkins Trust (JHT) comes in. They provide free, specialist nurse-led respite care for Gloucestershire’s youngest children with complex needs and their families.

What our funding has been used for

With Barnwood Trust’s funding, James Hopkins Trust has been able to hire more nurses, providing more specialist care hours and allowing parents to take well-deserved breaks. They’ve also been able to support more families by expanding their reach and offering practical care and emotional support. Additionally, they’ve introduced new ways  to raise money such as online platforms and digital donation tins, making it easier for people to donate without cash.

Barnwood’s funding has enabled JHT to help make daily life a little easier, a little brighter, and much more manageable for families facing extraordinary challenges.

A parent using the James Hopkins Trust said:

“James Hopkins Trust has been a lifeline for our family. The respite care gives us a chance to recharge whilst knowing that our little one is receiving such loving, expert care means everything to us.“

Looking forward

James Hopkins Trust will keep working to help more families who need support. They’ll be hosting multiple fun family-friendly events throughout the year. Their first event is their Easter Extravaganza on April 12th, 1pm-5pm at Abbeydale Community Centre, Gloucester. The event will include games, cakes, shopping, and fun activities for everyone.

“Thanks to Barnwood Trust, we’re able to keep doing what we do best, making life a little brighter for Gloucestershire’s most vulnerable children and their families and help them continue making magic memories of and with their child.“
