Sunflowers Suicide Support

Specialist support is available

Losing someone to suicide can deeply affect many people, bringing emotions that are hard to cope with. That’s where Sunflowers Suicide Support comes in. Founded by people with lived experience, the charity offers specialist support to those affected by suicide in Gloucestershire, whether recently or in the past.

What our funding has been used for

With Barnwood funding, Sunflowers Suicide Support have been able to strengthen their Liaison Service, which offers support to families and individuals following a bereavement – over 100 people in 2024/25. The team has improved their training and have reached more people, including in rural areas. They offer quick and consistent responses tailored to each person’s needs.

“Sunflowers Suicide Support has given me courage, strength and reassurance because they are there for you. This charity is so important to our community.“
“ From the moment I walked into the Sunflowers’ head office, I knew that we were not alone. The level of warmth, compassion and understanding from the team has been immense. Although it is still early days for our family, I take comfort in the knowledge that the Sunflowers family will be there to walk alongside us to help us shape whatever our 'new normal' looks like.“

Looking ahead

Sunflowers Suicide Support plan to grow their services. They will expand their bereavement events, develop their rural drop-in’s and continue to build their Seeds of Hope service for children and young people. They’ll explore ways to work with local organisations to build suicide awareness across the county. They are also trialling a peer-led support network and launching a Steering Group made up of staff, volunteers, trustees, and those with lived experience. This will ensure services stay grounded in what the community needs.

Sunflowers Suicide Support will keep on growing and helping people across Gloucestershire cope with the impact of suicide and support mental health and wellbeing.
