Jess Waterman

Head of Engagement

What am I responsible for?

I lead Barnwood’s activity to engage with people who want to drive change for disabled people and people with mental health challenges in the county.

What brings me here?

Before Barnwood, I worked as a Theatre Manager. I would put together programmes of indoor and outdoor theatre, film and community performances, and I managed a team of event staff. Before that I studied theatre and education in London. This taught me that telling and hearing stories, being involved in activities with other people and sharing a purpose can help make good things happen.

What am I working on?

Our new Engagement team is looking at how we can be better connected with people who experience disabling barriers in Gloucestershire. We want there to be lots of ways for people to be in touch with us at Barnwood about what matters, and for more people to feed into our work in the future. We are keen to hear any and all ideas about this.

What do I enjoy spending time doing for my own wellbeing?

My dog Peppa keeps me well, we enjoy walks together in the woods and snuggles on the sofa. I like to create art pieces from time to time (especially if someone in my family agrees to have a go too!). Singing along to music in the car is a good stressbuster for me. Oh, and I love cheese. (She/her)
