New accessibility software on our website

Barnwood Trust is proud to launch a new accessibility tool for the website, in time for the ‘What Does Accessibility Mean to Me’ awareness week – a key date in the calendar to get everyone talking and learning about accessibility, diversity, and inclusion.

18th– 22nd October 2021 marks the first ‘What Does Accessibility Mean to Me’ awareness week organised by Recite Me, where they want everyone to come together and recognise the differences within our communities and to support a diverse range of people.

Accessibility and inclusion are issues that we feel very passionate about at Barnwood Trust and we are excited to announce that we have recently added an accessibility tool bar to our website through Recite Me.

The new accessibility software added to our website means that users are now able to customise the web page in a way that suits them. The toolbar includes being able to adjust the font size, type, and colour. This additional support is vital to visitors to our website who have a sensory impairment, neurodiverse condition, or have English as a second language as it means that all of our content is more accessible. The new tool bar includes text to speech functionality, customisable styling features, reading aids, and a translation tool with over 100 languages, including 35 text to speech voices and many other features.

Assistive technology provides solutions and support to make the online world more inclusive. But the cost of some of this technology for personal computers can be a barrier. By adding these new features to our website we hope that we can open up our digital content to more people.

To access this tool bar on our website simply click on the ‘Accessibility’  button on the top right of any page. We hope you will find the tool bar simple to use but there is a handy user guide as one of the options and you can always contact us for extra assistance.
